An e-commerce brand with 15-40 employees selling consumer electronics through Shopify was struggling to maintain customer experience standards on WhatsApp. The support team of 6 agents handled 200-300 daily conversations, with peak periods spiking to 500+ and creating 12-24 hour response delays.
I built an AI-powered WhatsApp support agent using n8n, OpenAI, and the WhatsApp Business API. The agent handles order lookups, return processing, product questions via RAG knowledge base, and complaint resolution — with smart escalation to human agents when needed.
The system handles 600-800 daily conversations (up from 200-300), with 82% automated resolution rate. Average response time dropped from 12 hours to 2 minutes. Customer satisfaction improved from 3.2/5 to 4.6/5, and the support capacity tripled without adding headcount.
